1. Creator Uploads & Cloudflare D1 Storage
When you create a challenge:
- Photo & Price Storage: The creator's grocery photo and actual purchase price (stored as integer cents) are uploaded to and stored in a Cloudflare D1 database.
- Client-Side Compression: Before upload, your browser resizes photos to at most 1600 px along the longest edge, re-encodes the image to strip EXIF camera metadata, and targets a file size under 900 KB.
2. Challenge Links & Photo Visibility
Challenge links use random 22-character identifiers (for example, /c/AbCdEf...). While challenges are unlisted and are not published in any public index, directory, or sitemap, unlisted links and noindex / noimageindex response headers do not guarantee privacy. Anyone who receives the link, scans the generated challenge QR code, or shares the URL can view the photo.
Creator Best Practice: Do not upload photos that contain faces, home addresses, payment receipts with card numbers, or personal identifying information.
3. Submitting Guesses & Price Revelation
The actual checkout price is stored exclusively on the server. It is not included in the challenge HTML, page JavaScript, or initial API response. Submitting a guess via the challenge form sends the guess in USD cents to the server, which then returns the actual total, the difference, and a reaction.
